Recipe

For the Dough:
2 and 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1 and 1/4 cups warm water
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. salt

For the seasoning:
3/4 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1/4 cup vegan butter-flavored coconut oil
2 tbsp shredded Violife parmesan*

Directions

  1. Start by making the dough.  To do this, add the water to a large mixing bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top.  Allow to rest for 15 minutes in a warm spot to activate the yeast.
  2. Mix** in 2 cups of the flour.  Add the olive oil and salt as you continue to mix.
  3. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 a cup at a time until all of it is incorporated into the dough.
  4. Shape the dough into multiple strips and form each strip of dough into a knot and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet with at least 2" between each knot.
  5. While the knots rise, make the seasoning by mixing together all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
  6. Rub the topping onto the garlic knots and set aside for 15 minutes or more***.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and once ready, bake the garlic knots in the preheated oven for 13 minutes or until golden.
  8. Let cool for a while, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

*Feel free to use as much as you'd like.
**You can mic either by hand or with an electric mixer.
***The longer you let these rest, the more that the flavor will seep into the dough and the flavor will become stronger and tastier. However, don't leave it out too long or the yeast might start to ferment, so about an hour would be great!
