Bagels

Whether you spread them with cream cheese, some mashed avocado, or eat them as they are, bagels are great for breakfast!

Recipe

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 tbsp. cane sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 cup sesame seeds, for topping (optional)
​2 tsp baking soda

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mix together the yeast, water, and sugar.  Set in a warm spot to rise 10 minutes.
  2. Once foamy, mix in the salt and flour.  Knead for about 15 minutes.  If the dough starts to get sticky, add some more flour.  
  3. Set the dough in a warm spot to rise for at least an hour.
  4. Divide the dough into about 8 pieces of equal size.  Grab one piece, roll it into a ball, poke a whole through the center, and widen the whole to form a bagel shape.  Repeat until you don't have any more dough left.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.  Once it starts to boil, add the baking soda. 
  7. Place a bagel or two in the water and cook each side for 45 seconds.  Place the bagel onto a parchment lined baking sheet and repeat with the remaining bagels.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.  Allow to cool a bit and serve!  Enjoy!
