Homemade "Cheese"

As a big fan of cheese, I'm glad that I'm finally able to make my own!  It is very tasty, with a ton of flavor and is great with saltine crackers!

Sorry about the picture; the lighting isn't the best so you can't see the color and I chose the wrong colored plate!
This cheese doesn't melt, but there are still many ways that you can enjoy it.  I personally have only had it with some saltine crackers (they're a great combination), but you can try using it in a sandwich, cutting it into cubes (it slices very well), or shredding it to top a salad!

Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups oat milk
1 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
2 tbsp. agar agar powder
1 1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp lemon juice
1/2 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp turmeric (for color)
1 tbsp. water (either warm or at room temperature)
1 tsp tahini 

Directions

  1. Grease a cheese mold* with some additional olive oil and set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, mix together all of the ingredients except for the water and tahini.  Turn the heat on to medium.
  3. Stir frequently to prevent anything from sticking.  Once the cheese reaches a boil, simmer for 6 minutes**. 
  4. In a small bowl, mix mix together the tahini and the water.
  5. Remove the cheese from the heat and mix in the tahini mixture.
  6. Pour the cheese into your mold, allow to cool for 15 minutes, and place in the fridge to set for at least 2 hours.
  7. Once the cheese has solidified, serve and enjoy! 
 
*I used a large ramekin as a cheese mold
