International Picnic Day

Spread a blanket out on the lawn and grab  some snacks; it's International Picnic Day, and what better way to celebrate than with a family picnic?   I don't think that there is!   There's nothing better than being outside on a warm and sunny day, and a nice picnic for the whole family is a great addition.  You can play games, watch birds, and simply be outside in the fresh air!  If you can't go outside for one reason or another, you can do what we did recently; have an indoor picnic!   We grabbed a blanket (which was actually a red and white checkered  tablecloth, but who can tell?) and spread it out on the floor next to our window.  We still made sandwiches, had snacks and played games like we'd do outside, just inside.

Ours was a teddy bear picnic, which I personally like better than a traditional one, but both are great.  We gathered all of our teddy bears from around the house and invited them to have lunch with us.   Almost everything at the picnic had a teddy bear theme.  There were vegan, bear-shaped gummies and what Mami decided to call "beary juice" as well as a sandwich that was cut to look like a bear.  We also had a cinnamon roll blondie, which although it didn't quite fit the theme, it was still "beary" delicious!

Once we had finished eating, we had a bear search.  Mami had drawn and cut out 15 bears and hid them throughout the house.  The first few were easy to find, but then they kept on getting harder and harder.  At one time we couldn't find any, but then I found one which was hidden in plain sight.  We had walked right past it without even seeing it!   The game was really fun and it reminded me of an Easter egg hunt, which I also enjoy!

I also enjoy having picnics on the beach, and not long before entering quarantine, my family and I had one.  Once again, it was a teddy bear picnic and we each brought along one of our teddies.  We had sandwiches, grapes and juice for lunch before splashing around in the water for hours on end.   This was the best picnic that I've ever had since it was at my favorite place in the world; the beach!

Several years ago we had a picnic in our backyard, but this time there were no teddy bears.  Mami prepared everything by herself, and although we knew what she was doing, we still had no idea what the picnic would be like.  When we went outside, there was a blanket spread out on the grass next to our house, and the snacks were already there, ready to be eaten.  There were grapes, cherries and muffins, all of which were delicious!

As you can see, there is not just one right way to have a fun family picnic.  There are many, and as long as you don't harm anyone, there's no wrong way to have one!  Happy International Picnic Day!
