Oven-Baked Churos

A traditional Spanish treat, these churros are oven baked, easy to make, and absolutely delicious!

Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup water
3 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tbsp. sugar plus 1/4 cup for coating
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp. vegan butter flavored coconut oil, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat water, coconut oil, 1tbsp sugar, and salt, mixing until the coconut oil melts and the water comes to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat and add the flour, mixing until a dough forms, and set to cool for 10 minutes. 
  4. In a loaf pan, combine the cinnamon and the rest of the sugar.
  5. Once the dough has cooled, place it in a pastry bag and pipe churros about 7 inches long on a baking sheet.
  6. Place in the oven and bake for 25 to 35 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool before brushing with the vegan butter flavored coconut oil and roll in the sugar cinnamon mixture.
