Why Vegan?

There are many benefits in choosing to be vegan, of course there's the cruelty-free aspect of it, but did you know that a vegan diet is healthier than one that consists of meat?  It's true!  As a matter of fact, vegans, as well as vegetarians, have a longer life expectancy than that of meat-eaters.  Read on for a list of bonuses to being vegan.

1.  Cruelty-Free

First of all, a vegan diet is made up completely of fruits, veggies and other plants.  It does not include torturing and slaughtering billions of animals for their meat.  Each year, 56 billion animals are cruelly killed for human consumption, which is the equivalent to killing 1,000 animals each and every second!  By not eating animals, vegans save an average of 198 animals every year.  Vegans can be proud about the fact that they are saving hundreds of thousands of innocent animal lives a year!

2.  Environmentally Friendly

Did you know that by being vegan, you're also helping to correct global warming?  Well, you are!  It turns out that vegans produce 73% less carbon than non-vegans.  That's quite a big difference, and if everyone in the world were vegan, in one year, we would have removed as much as 9.6 billion tons of carbon from our atmosphere.  That's the same as getting rid of all of the cars in the United States for seven and a half years!

What does this mean?  By not eating any animal products, you're also saving animals like polar bears, penguins and seals, who are loosing their homes to global warming!

3.  Prevents Pandemics

Have you heard of Ebola? Bird flu? What about Covid-19?  One thing that they all have in common is that they were caused by the consumption of animals.  That's right; if everyone had been vegan, they could have easily been prevented.  There have been countless pandemics caused by humans harming animals, so why haven't we learned our lesson? One way to avoid another major pandemic; don't eat animals!

4. Healthier

Although some may say that vegans aren't healthy and don't get enough protein, it isn't true.  Just look at some of the world's largest and strongest land mammals; elephants, hippos, buffalos and cows.  What do they all have in common? They only eat plants!

As for humans, a vegan diet is healthier than one that includes meat.  Don't believe me?  Vegetarians are proven to have a longer life expectancy than meat-eaters by 12%, and vegans even longer.  Why's that?  Well, there are many health risks involved in eating meat, including obesity and clogged arteries which can lead to kidney damage,  heart disease, and certain cancers.  Meat-eaters are also three times more likely to have Alzheimer's than a vegetarian.

So, if a vegetarian diet is healthier than a diet that includes meat, a vegan diet is even healthier.  Vegans weigh an average of 28 pounds less than meat-eaters, which leads to fewer health problems.  Eating vegan also boosts your immune system, thus, vegans are less likely to die from infections.  Another great thing about a vegan diet, studies show that vegans have a better mood than meat-eaters and live a longer, happier life!

5.  Plant-Based Tastes Great

Last, but not least, plant-based foods taste amazing.  Not only can a vegan eat a ton of fresh fruits and vegetables, but you can find vegan alternatives to your favorite foods.  There are vegan burgers, vegan pizzas, vegan tacos, almost anything you can imagine can be made vegan!  These vegan alternatives are not only cruelty-free and healthier, they also taste great!  Cruelty-free doesn't mean flavorless!

These are just a few of the many benefits of being vegan.  Going plant based shows compassion to animals, helps the environment, prevents pandemics, allows you to live a longer, happier life, and still gives you all that great flavor!
