Pizza is a beloved dish, but not everyone can have yeast, so it's nice knowing that there's a vegan yeast-free dough that you can make to still enjoy this classic meal, providing an option for everyone to enjoy!
Yesterday my family and I were in the mood for pizza, but we were out of yeast, so I decided to take the opportunity to try making a yeast-free pizza dough. Surprisingly, it was really good, and the crust was both crispy and tasty. It's convenient knowing that even when we don't have any yeast available, I can still make a flavorful pizza with a dough that's ready in minutes; no waiting for it to rise!
When I made this pizza, I used some pasta sauce since we didn't have pizza sauce (it's good that way too) and topped it with Violife mozzarella shreds as well as some garlic powder and dried basil. Next time I think that I'll add some Violife parmesan too!
For the dough:
2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp olive oil
2/3 cups lukewarm water
Other (optional and any amount you'd like):
Your favorite pizza sauce*
Violife mozzarella shreds
Your favorite vegan pizza toppings
In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients.
Slowly add in the water and oil and knead by hand until a workable dough has formed. If it's too dry and crumbles, add some water about a teaspoon at a time, and if it's too wet/sticky, add some more flour.
Form the dough into a crust and assemble you pizza using your favorite vegan toppings!
Bake at 480 degrees Fahrenheit for about 8 to 12 minutes, depending on how much sauce and toppings you add. Once the crust is crispy, remove from oven, slice, serve, and enjoy!
*You can use any vegan pizza sauce, including the one used in Vegan Empire's other pizza recipe which includes a homemade pizza sauce that's great!
**Violife isn't the only vegan cheese out there. There are many other brands, but personally, after trying Daiya, Go Veggie, and Follow Your Heart, Violife has been my favorite. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will be your favorite, and so feel free to use the one that you like best and keep in mind that each company is different, so I recommend experimenting until you find your favorite :)
