This past Sunday my family made a short trip to Chicago to go ice skating and to the Field Museum, and even though the rain canceled our plans to go ice skating, we still had a lot of fun! Before our trip, I'd found out about a vegan ice cream shop called "Vaca's Creamery" that I really wanted to try, so when we went there as soon as we got to the city. I decided to get a "Candy Bar" sundae with chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream, which was delicious! It had a chocolate shell, caramel sauce, and toasted peanuts! My little sister, Ariana, also had a Candy Bar Sundae... We stayed the night at the Palmer House hotel, which, according to my mom, is the oldest functioning hotel in the US. There were a lot of details like sculptures and paintings, unlike most hotels today. It was decorated really nicely for the holidays. This is my sister and I in front of the huge tree that was in the lobby. This was the view from our room... Once we were settled in, we decided to order dinner from another vegan restaurant in Chicago that we'd wanted to try...Kitchen 17. Unfortunately, we weren't really happy with this meal. The cauliflower wings were good, but I prefer the ones that we make at home. The chick'n parm sandwich was really greasy, as were the fries, and the deep-dish pizza was also good. I prefer the chick'n sandwich that I got from Native foods the next day :) The next morning was Saint Nicholas Day, so my mom surprised my sister and me with some cute slippers that she stuffed with a few vegan treats, like a vegan cinnamon roll blondie, gummies, and a candy cane! Then we went to the Chicago Field Museum to see the dinosaur exhibit... This is Sue, the famous T-Rex. Triceratops are my favorite dinosaurs :) So that's our trip to Chicago! Even though we didn't get to go ice skating, we still had a lot of fun and I can't wait for our next trip!
